Why Dance?

DANCE IS ABOUT MORE THAN LEARNING STEPS...

Dance is a great supplement to sports, cheer and other physical activities. Did you know students learn much more than “just dance” in a dance class, though they probably don’t notice that they’re learning it? Numerous studies have shown that dance can be very beneficial physically, mentally, and socially.

Physical Benefits

        Gain coordination, balance & flexibility
            Strengthen posture, poise & grace
Encourage development of small and large motor skills
Contribute to whole-body strength and physical fitness
                        Improve Agility and Stamina

Mental Benefits

Dance nurtures creative expression and imagination, as well as fosters an appreciation in the arts.
Dancers develop an earned self esteem, confidence, and self discipline. Dance instruction by its very nature fosters a commitment to task and strong work ethic as well as the practice time-management. Studies show that dance exercises both the right and left side of the brain at the same time and research proves that there is a strong link between involvement in the arts and increased educational achievement.

                Strengthen Memory
                    Build Concentration
                        Lengthen Attention Span

    Boost problem-solving skills:

                Understanding Patterns
                    Spatial Relationships
                        Recognize Direction and Sequence
Experiment with Time and Energy Concepts

Social Benefits

Students learn and practice basic social and classroom etiquette such as taking turns, waiting in line, and lead/follow. They learn to interact with peers while developing a sense of self as well as self respect. Students are able to experience pride and gratification in their own accomplishments while at the same time working as a team with their peers toward a common goal.
